Weight check :(

We had a disappointing Dr's appointment yesterday. Brayli only weighed 6lbs 4oz. She lost a little over 1 oz since her last check. She was 6lbs 5oz last Thursday. That was with feeding her about every 2.5 hours. Of course with my baby blues I cried right there for all to see. How frustrating to put so much into nursing and not see the benefit for my baby. She now is a fan of Enfamil! She gulped that first bottle down so quick you would have thought I was starving her. Oh wait, I was. I now pump to try and get some more milk in and so we can measure how much she is actually getting. We may just have a formula baby. :( We tried!!!! Hopefully by Friday she will have a little more fat on her bones. That will be her fourth Dr's appointment before she's even two weeks old. Good thing I like and trust the Dr's and nurses at Treasure Valley Pediatrics. I'm so glad I work there and can get the help we need.

Dad got to feed her the first bottle!

Beth, Congratulations!! :o)

Have you tried nursing her every other feeding & using formula in between feedings? -- You'll have to pump when formula feeding, but it may just save you guys some money on going full blown formula... just a thought. I have had to do this with the last 2 kids, it's hard but worth it. Oh the things us "mother's" do for our baby's! :o) Don't be so down on yourself if the nursing doesn't work out... it didn't work out for Logan (my first) & it was hard to deal with but not every baby is a nursing baby (in my op)& with Asha (#2) I wasn't providing enough for her... every baby is different. I'm hoping this next one, #4 (will be here soon) will nurse... we'll just have to wait & see.

You're doing a GreaT job! being a first time mom is hard... but you're a Natural! :o)

e-mail me sometime if you just need to vent/talk.

Good Luck!!!! :o)

Don't worry too much. Most babies lose weight and then gain it back. I'm sure she'll bounce back in no time at all. When Sammy was born she lost 14% of her body weight within the first week. (They don't like babies to lose more than 10%, so it was a little scare.) We used formula while breastfeeding by sliding a small tube in the corner of her mouth connected to a suringe with formula in it. Very effective! I know there's also an herbal pill you can take to help boost your milk, but I don't know the name of it. Brigetta tried that and she said it was amazing.

I hope things get better and that those darn baby blues go away soon. I understand that and if you need to talk about anything or just cry, I'm here for you.

Hey at least you tried! And whether or not you bottle feed or breast feed, she's getting the food she needs, right?!

Matthew looks pretty content feeding her. He's a natural!! It'll be okay -- what's important is that she's healthy.

Congratulation's you two! Beth I had the baby blues too, if you ever need someone to talk to or go visit. I am right around the corner to help! Sometime I would love to come and meet Brayli (adorable name)in person. I would LOVE to make you guy's dinner (since you haven't got that dessert yet :( ). Just let me know! You will get through this sweetie.

Hey Beth,

I completely feel your pain. I have tried nursing both of our boys, but after so much frustration and tears, we had to face the facts that I just don't produce enough milk. I tried all of the tricks from Le Leche, but nothing worked. That's when I realized how lucky we are that we have such great formula now that can help them be strong and healthy. There are benefits too... Dad can wake up for that 3 A.M. feeding :) Good luck with everything. Time goes quickly and these trials will pass soon.

Beth- she is beautiful!!! Congratulations. Hang in there- the first month is super hard- I had difficulty nursing Jezelle as well and had to supplement and pump. It's not too fun but the things we do for those we love!!!!!! I promise it will get better!!!!!!! And like you said- you try your best and that's all you can do!!!!! At least she will get some of your milk- that is what is important.

How frustrating! I actually had the opposite problem. When I had Ryan, I had to pump after each feeding because I had so much milk that it was painful! Good luck!
